Make a place mat to use at meal times
For each child, you will need:
- A piece of A4 card. Draw or print a text box in the middle.
- Make a prayer label the same size as the text box in the middle of the card: write or print 'Thank you God for my food'.
- Small pictures from magazines or clip art of food.
You will also need:
- glue sticks
- clear sticky-backed plastic or a laminator and laminating pouches.
Instructions
- Stick pictures of food all over the card. Explain that you will cover the text box with a label so anything inside the box won’t be seen.
- Stick on the prayer label over the text box.
- Protect the place mats by laminating them or covering them with clear sticky-backed plastic.
Make a harvest banner
For each child, you will need:
- A piece of A4 coloured sugar paper. Use the paper portrait way up. Along the top of one shorter end, write or print 'Thank you God for the harvest'. Cut a 3-4 cm fringe cut along the other shorter end. (Older children may be able to do this for themselves with supervision.)
- Cut-outs of the base and the handle of a basket (see templates below). Use basket weave wallpaper for this if possible.
- Pictures of fruit: these could be cut from magazines, pre-cut on white paper which children then colour in, or pre-cut on coloured sugar paper.
- A strip of stiff card 21 cm x 2 cm.
- A piece of ribbon, wool or string for a hanging thread.
You will also need:
- glue sticks
- wax or plastic crayons.
Instructions
- Stick on the base and handle of the basket. Colour over with a wax or plastic crayon.
- Stick the fruit at the top of the basket.
- Stick the strip of card on the back of the top edge of the banner for stiffness.
- Attach the hanging thread.
