Meet the Barnabas INSET Team

Lucy Moore

Lucy Moore Lucy Moore is a professional actor and storyteller. Part of the Barnabas team since 2000, she is an experienced speaker, workshop leader and performer.

After training and working as a teacher, Lucy became Drama Advisor for the Diocese of Bradford. Moving to the south, she worked freelance for BRF as a performer in schools before taking up her present post and combining it with writing. Her published work includes The Gospels Unplugged—the Gospel stories in verse and script form; Topsy Turvy Christmas—a Christmas musical for children, The Lord’s Prayer Unplugged—a programme of sessions exploring the Lord’s Prayer through drama, craft, prayer and games; and Messy Church—working with people on the edge of church life through a programme of all-age Bible-based activities.
Lucy is available to work with teachers in Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex.


Martyn Payne

Martyn Payne Martyn Payne joined the Barnabas team in January 2003, having worked with CMS as National Children’s Work Co-ordinator for several years. Martyn has wide experience of working with schools to explore ways of opening up the Bible with children. Based in London, Martyn is available to lead training sessions, take workshops and help run special events anywhere in the UK.

Prior to his time with CMS, Martyn worked for 18 years as a teacher in East London, both leading a modern languages department and also involved in the planning, writing and delivery of RE lessons. He has experience in producing materials for churches and schools and has produced a large bank of flexible activity outlines, which have been widely used in the classroom. Martyn has travelled in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, where he has also been involved in training children's workers and teachers. Martyn is an experienced workshop leader and speaker and has collaborated with children’s advisers and education officers in major schools and family events across the UK.


Jane Butcher

Jane Butcher Jane Butcher was born in Denver, USA, but grew up and was educated in the UK, spending most of her childhood actively involved in sport. She trained as a secondary school teacher and taught P.E. and R.E. in a city secondary school. Having also trained as a youth worker, she moved into full-time church-based children’s and youth work in 1993. Over the next ten years, her posts included Children’s Worker at a church in Michigan, USA, and for the past 6 years the Children’s Worker at St. John’s Church, Harborne, Birmingham. Jane joined the Barnabas team in September 2007.
