Barnabas RE Day

A Barnabas RE Day is a full day’s visit to your school to bring the Bible to life for primary-aged children through a range of the creative arts. It provides a flexible, enjoyable and educational experience, exploring the stories and themes of the Bible.

How does a Barnabas RE Day work?

A typical Barnabas RE Day day might run along these lines:

9.00 Whole school assembly
9.30 Reception Our World session
10.00 Year 1 Our World session
10.30 Break
10.45 Year 2 Our World session

The timetable, class groupings and themes are completely flexible and will be organised on an individual basis between you and Barnabas to suit your school’s needs.

The sessions use different creative arts, according to the strengths of the team member undertaking your booking, such as storytelling, music, dance, mime, drama, creative writing, or drawing. The material is based on biblical and historical accounts, personal story and shared experience.

Barnabas works with the themes of Our World, Caring for Others, Our Uniqueness, The Bible, Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and Harvest, using Bible stories and contemporary life illustrations to explore them.

The themes also address many PSHE / Citizenship objectives, such as:
Our World: what improves and harms your environment, responsibility towards your environment
Caring for Others: recognizing choices, realizing other people have needs, caring, bullying, racism
Our Uniqueness: recognizing similarities and differences between people, feeling positive about yourself, recognizing your worth as an individual, recognizing and challenging stereotypes

Meet the Barnabas RE Day team

Read about how members of the Barnabas RE Day team got on in school...

'It was a brilliant day! Vicki inspired children and staff alike. The assembly was particularly relevant - so much happening at this time - it's important children realise how special they are. During the staff meeting that afternoon everyone wanted to say how much they'd enjoyed the day and found new ideas to try in September.'

‘The children were enthralled, as were the adults. They loved the humour and could relate to the pictures painted in their imagination.’

‘The children will remember the dramatic retelling of Bible stories’

‘The children listened and partook really well. They were very enthusiastic. One class coming out of the hall said ‘It’s brilliant!’ All staff were complimentary. A Year 6 teacher said it was excellent. Many thanks to Lucy for a super day!
