About Martyn
Based in east London, Martyn is available to respond to Barnabas Children's Ministry bookings across the UK. He taught in London for 18 years and then joined the Church Mission Society as a National Children's Work Coordinator, a post he held for 8 years. During this time, he worked with a wide cross-section of churches both in the UK and overseas, training leaders in children's work and leading special events with children.
In 2003, Martyn joined BRF's Barnabas Children's Ministry team. Martyn has produced a wide range of materials about contemporary expressions of Christianity around the world, as well as articles and worship material for Together with Children and Roots magazines. In 2004, Barnabas published A-cross the World, which has proved a popular and widely used resource in churches and schools. Martyn has also written Footsteps to the Feast, published in 2007, and was a co-author of Bethlehem Carols Unpacked, published in 2008. He is also the author of The People's Bible (2010) and The Big Story (2011).
Martyn has experience of training in a number of areas, including children's spirituality, storytelling the Bible, reaching children on the fringes and worship with children present. He is also an accredited teacher of Godly Play. He has contributed to education courses for ministers in training and led many children's activity days, holiday clubs and workshops in schools. He is at present Secretary to the Consultative Group for Ministry among Children (CGMC), a national body that brings together children's work advisers and advocates from the major Christian denominations and organisations in the UK.
Martyn has experience in the planning and leading of festivals and special events. His workshops are lively and interactive, enabling adults and children alike to step into and explore the Christian story, bringing the Bible alive through a variety of storytelling methods. In addition, Martyn has coordinated the children's work, and led worship, at his own local church for over 20 years. As part of the Barnabas Children's Ministry Team, he is responsible for coordinating, updating and writing material for the Barnabas websites.
