The Core Skills training scheme seeks to resource all those who work with children in the church. This module aims to explore the role of advocacy in children's work; to explore the balance between advocating for the child and enabling the child's own voice to be heard; to question the role of the Children's Advocate.

• To understand what we mean by advocacy.
• To explore different models of advocacy and discuss them in relation to what we can achieve within our role as children's workers.
• To explore our own attitudes towards children and advocacy roles.
• To understand the role of local schools councils (the child advocate).
• To explore what could prevent children from being heard.
• To ensure that children feature in the general work of the church.
• To advocate the importance of children's, youth and family work in the church and wider community.
