Content

The ideas in this book are based on the storytelling tradition in which learning is by hearing, by seeing, by experiencing and by doing. The material breaks the story of Easter into seven sessions and can be used at any time over the Easter season. Sessions 1-5 could be presented at a Good Friday service and Sessions 6-7 on Easter Sunday. Equally, the whole story could be presented in all-age worship in church, or collective worship in schools in the week leading up to Easter, or at a special event arranged over the Easter weekend. The material could also be used as the basis for a Lenten Junior Church programme, or an Easter holiday club.

The book contains all the information needed to run each session, plus individual outlines of the sessions themselves with ideas for the theme, colour, sound, warm-up activities, games, snacks and presentation methods, as well as notes for leaders and the Bible passage written in full with an accompanying narrative to help the children get under the skin of the story. Each session closes with a suggestion for reflection.

The material in this book was devised and written by the creative team of 'Children in Urban Situations' (CURBS) and first produced as a CURBStone Kit. Visit the CURBS website at www.curbsproject.org.uk for more information about their work and resources.

Reviews

From STAR News (diocese of London children's work magazine) - January 2006

Here's an unusual way of approaching the Easter story with 6-10s through colour, sound and light. Colours of Easter is an incredibly flexible book. The presentations of the story (which are linked narration with OHP images, music or actors) are designed to be used on their own, in worship, in Sunday groups or as part of a bigger session.

The 7 individual sessions each have ideas for storytelling, games, activities, prayer, music and reflection, based round a colour which symbolises the theme of the session.

Colours of Easter could be used in a holiday club setting, as a Good Friday workshop, a Lenten junior church programme or part of school collective worship.
