This distinctive gift book provides a unique opportunity to discover afresh, or for the first time, the story of Jesus' life through the evocative contemporary work of a single artist. Within its pages, different aspects of the life of Jesus are explored in an open and critical way, using contemporary images, symbols and related events to extend the narrative - a method that echoes the way the Gospels themselves are written.

In total, 22 key events have been interpreted through the artist's vibrant artwork, accompanied by the related Bible texts in a modern translation (Contemporary English Version).

Author info

Paul Forsey is a full time artist and designer. He trained in Fine Art, painting and printmaking at the University of Reading. He has exhibited regularly and has work in many collections including the Arthur Andersen Art Collection and the Gyosei International College. His religious paintings have been exhibited in Douai Abbey, Sheffield Catholic Cathedral, Lincoln Cathedral, Wells Cathedral and York Minster.

Jo Fageant is Oxford Diocesan Adviser for RE and associate adviser for SACRE and for six LEAs, writing their SACRE reports and overseeing their RE syllabi.

In The Life of Jesus Through the Eyes of an Artist, painter Paul Forsey takes a fresh look at the biblical stories, with the aim of changing the way children understand the New Testament, writes Maggie Hartford.

Four Advent scenes with a contemporary feel, commissioned by the Oxford Diocese, were so successful that Forsey was asked to paint another 18 events in Jesus's life for this book.

Intended for children aged seven to 11, the book's text is taken directly from Bible passages in contemporary English selected by Jo Fageant, Oxford diocesan adviser for religious education.

She has also written a teacher's guide with David Barton, a former headteacher who is a former chair of governors at Isis Middle School in Oxford.
