Content

This book uses Jesus' teaching in the parables to link biblical truths to contemporary situations for primary-aged children.

The pick-up-and-use formula has been developed after consultation with several primary school teachers and the material is intended for use with 6-10 year olds in RE, PSHE and assemblies. Its thematic approach also makes it ideal for Sunday schools and other church-based groups.

Bible text for each of the twelve popular parables is included in full. Each parable is then followed by a contemporary story to link the lessons in the parable to a modern-day setting. Reflections and discussion starters are given to help further understanding, together with suggested activities for the classroom and assemblies.

The resource includes worksheets and easy-to-perform scripts and presentations - all with photocopy permission. The twelve themes explore:

  • Values
  • Big things can come from small beginnings
  • Treating others as we want to be treated
  • Being sorry and asking for forgiveness
  • Caring
  • Fairness
  • Missed opportunities
  • Taking responsibility for ourselves
  • Saying what we mean and meaning what we say
  • Being humble and not conceited
  • Using our gifts
  • Building a good foundation for life
