A rainy day in Durrington

Lucy Moore

Rain coming down in Noahesque proportions made for an adventurous journey to Durrington Junior School, through flooded country roads, around a fallen tree and a broken-down lorry.

The poor children suffered an entire day inside with no respite from their classroom except for their 45-minute sessions in the hall with me, so they were ready for some action by the time they got there. We were thinking about Who is my neighbour? and Who am I? after an assembly focused on a retelling of the parable of the Prodigal Son. Despite their pent-up energy, the children produced some excellent modern ‘lost and found’ parables of their own and came up with some useful insights into the dilemmas faced by the priest on the famous road between Jerusalem and Jericho. It was great to have the company of Graham and Chrissie who not only observed but joined in with gusto.
